MOVE TOGETHER

One shared activity. Once a week.
A whole year of making time for each other.

A walk that turns into a conversation. A tennis rally that ends in laughter. A kitchen disco you both needed. 52 simple ways for mothers and daughters to move, connect and make memories.

“You don’t have to love the same sport.
You just have to make a little time.”

Walk, roll, dance, rally or stretch. Let connection set the pace.

Make it a date

Start with this week.

No perfect routine required. Just a small agreement to spend time together.

One activity a week. A little movement, a little conversation and time together. Follow the list in order, swap weeks around or repeat your favourites. Adapt each activity to your ages, abilities, budget and energy.

  1. The catch-up walk. Take a familiar route and share one good thing from your week and one thing you need.

  2. Kitchen disco. Choose three songs each and dance around the kitchen. No choreography required.

  3. A gentle morning stretch. Spend a few minutes doing comfortable stretches together, seated or standing.

  4. A different way home. Take a new route through your neighbourhood and notice five things you normally miss.

  5. Your first tennis rally. See how many gentle shots you can return together. Start with bouncing and catching if needed.

  6. A sunrise or sunset stroll. Find somewhere to watch the light change and enjoy an unhurried conversation.

  7. Learn a dance together. Choose a short beginner routine and practise a few moves.

  8. Move and breathe. Spend ten quiet minutes making gentle movements with your shoulders, hands and feet.

  9. The photo walk. Choose a theme, such as colours, reflections or things that make you smile, and take photographs along the way.

  10. A little walk, a little jog. Alternate short, comfortable jogs with walking. Walking the whole way counts too.

  11. Badminton in the park. Make keeping the shuttlecock in the air your shared challenge.

  12. Try a studio taster. Book an age-appropriate beginner Pilates, yoga or barre session with a qualified instructor.

  13. Walk down memory lane. Visit somewhere meaningful to one of you and share the story behind it.

  14. A garden game afternoon. Try soft-ball catch, beanbag throwing or a simple obstacle course.

  15. Market morning. Explore a local market on foot and choose something to enjoy together afterwards.

  16. The destination outing. Walk or gently jog to a café, park or viewpoint. Leave time to enjoy your destination.

  17. Tennis without the score. Practise serving and returning without keeping track of who wins.

  18. The ten-minute reset. Put on a calm playlist and enjoy gentle movement after a busy day.

  19. A local discovery trail. Choose three nearby places you have never properly explored and plan a route between them.

  20. Make a movement jar. Each write five simple movements on slips of paper. Draw a few and create your own sequence.

  21. The listening walk. Give each other uninterrupted time to talk. Ask whether the other person wants advice or simply someone to listen.

  22. Find your shared pace. Choose a flat route and walk or jog at a pace where you can both talk comfortably.

  23. A seated movement date. Put on music and try comfortable seated movements together.

  24. Beach, lake or riverside. Explore a safe, accessible waterside path and find somewhere to pause.

  25. Try pickleball. Find a beginner session and learn the rules together.

  26. Halfway celebration. Repeat your favourite activity so far and talk about what you have enjoyed together.

  27. The picnic walk. Pack a simple picnic and walk or roll to a comfortable spot.

  28. Try a balance class. Join a suitable beginner session with an instructor who can adapt movements for both of you.

  29. Backyard bowling. Use empty plastic bottles and a soft ball to create your own bowling game.

  30. The playlist outing. Make a shared playlist for a walk or gentle jog, keeping the volume low enough to remain aware of your surroundings.

  31. A gallery wander. Explore a museum or gallery and each choose one piece to discuss.

  32. The soft-ball rally. Enjoy a gentle racket or catch game, focusing on cooperation.

  33. A kindness route. Include a small act of kindness in your outing, such as delivering a note or visiting someone who would welcome company.

  34. Stretch and a story. Enjoy familiar, comfortable stretches while taking turns sharing childhood memories.

  35. Two wheels together. Cycle a suitable route with appropriate equipment, or choose a walk instead.

  36. A living-room dance lesson. Teach each other a dance move you know. Laughing through it is encouraged.

  37. Join a community outing. Try a welcoming local walking or running group suitable for both your ages and abilities.

  38. A tennis taster. Book a beginner lesson together and enjoy having someone else explain the technique.

  39. A seasonal stroll. Notice what is changing around you: leaves, flowers, weather or light.

  40. Move on a low-energy day. Choose five minutes of manageable movement. Stop sooner if that is enough.

  41. A guided nature outing. Join a local nature walk with a distance and terrain that suit you both.

  42. The scavenger stroll. Make a list of things to spot, such as a red door, a bird, a funny sign or your favourite colour.

  43. Choose your court game. Revisit tennis, badminton or pickleball. Let the person who has chosen less often decide.

  44. A personal mini milestone. Choose a manageable distance to walk, roll or jog together, with no speed target.

  45. A movement-and-music evening. Play a favourite album and move gently however you like.

  46. Visit a garden. Explore a public garden or green space and find a favourite place to sit.

  47. The future-plans walk. Talk about one thing each of you would like to try in the coming year.

  48. Move through the decades. Choose music from different decades and introduce each other to your favourite moves.

  49. Invite another pair. Ask another mother-daughter pair, or two trusted people, to join a relaxed game or outing.

  50. Your daughter’s choice. Let the daughter plan an affordable activity, agreeing on the practical details together.

  51. Your mother’s choice. Let the mother choose a favourite activity and explain why it matters to her.

  52. Your year, your tradition. Repeat your favourite experience, reflect on the year and choose what you want to keep doing together.
